Mr. Drewry's Science & Social Studies Class

                  Hello! My Name Is........Mr. Drewry.

I would like to welcome you and your child to Cypress Point University Elementary for the 2018-2019 school year. First, I'd like to give you some background about me, so I’ll share the following: I graduated from the University of Louisiana at Monroe with a B.A. in Elementary Education 1-8 in May 2000.  I also studied at Louisiana Tech University and ULM to earn my M.Ed. plus 30 degree in Administration and Supervision in 2006. In the past, I served as an administrator, but I missed the classroom and returned to it six years ago. Over my career, I’ve taught at Richwood High School, City Park Elementary, in Dallas, TX, Mangham Elementary, Lakeshore Elementary, and once again at Mangham Elementary for four years. To add, in 2015, I was selected as the “Richland Parish Elementary Teacher of the Year.” This is my sixteenth year as an educator and my second year at Cypress Point. To add, I did my “Reading Block” teaching through ULM here in 1998. Furthermore, I will be your child’s  4th grade Science and Social Studies teacher this school year, and I am looking forward to having a most productive one! I know your child will learn a lot, and it will not be without some challenges along the way, but with grit, hard work, and dedication they will be successful.

As many of you may know, the Science and Social Studies curriculum has undergone some major changes over the past few years. Therefore, I will be utilizing the Monroe City Schools “Scope and Sequence” along with the LA Dept. Of Education’s TASKs, standards, curriculum, and other various resources to implement the content in these two disciplines. Students will be assessed each week in a variety of ways from independent work, group work, TASKS, fresh reads, projects, etc. that will
ALL be done in the classroom. It is paramount that your child is in regular attendance and comes prepared to learn every day.

The students graded papers, class work, notes, etc. will be sent home each Wednesday in the Gator folder for you to review with your child. You will need to sign the conduct sheet included and return it, with the tests, to school the following day.

If you have any questions or concerns during the year, please feel free to contact me by phone at (318) 345-5666 or by email
The best time(s) to reach me are from 2:30-3:15 p.m. Monday-Friday. I look forward to working with you and your child. Thank you in advance for your participation and cooperation in making this a wonderful year.
